Fanime Con - Second Wave

Finished uploading the MusicFest pictures. Available through the same link.

The convention was a lot of fun, and a good learning experience. It was the first convention I worked and naturally a learning experience. Next time I should be far better prepared. I couldn’t stop myself from buying a mix CD with some of the bands that were playing at Music Fest.

Faves from the cd:

  • Guitar Vader - Satisfy
  • Mizoguchi Ryoko - ii deshou
  • Mothercoat - Galileo
  • Miami - Shiratama Disco

Good thing I only had a few bucks cash on me or I might have bought have left with a heavier backpack.

During the closing ceremonies, the people who put on the event gave some encouraging promises of expansion for next year. Memorial day weekend, 2007. Look out for it ^_^.

Fanime Con Pix - First Wave

Okay…I’m reaching the 20 hour mark on eye-open time. I fell asleep on the bus this afternoon (evening?) and missed a few stops. That bus isn’t exactly a luxury ride, either, k? So I’ll leave the post on the fun details of the convention and my screwy dreams from Saturday night off for yet another post.

I’m planning on uploading the Fanime pictures in three sets: Cosplay, MusicFest, and Masquerade, in that order.

I just finished getting the Cosplay pictures uploaded. They’re here for your enjoyment.

Now….finally….bed time (-_-)zzzZZZzzzz

SF Asian American Film Festival

Coming up at the end of March is the 24th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. It looks like a lot of great flicks will be shown and I’d encourage everyone to explore the massive list of features; I’m sure you’ll find something that interests you. Forgive my handicap with dates, but I believe the films will be shown the last weekend of this month.

Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center

There’s an intresting post on indybay.org from a couple of photographers who are in the gulf-coast region. They visited a convention center in Texas that is being used to house those displaced by the huricane. Even as members of the media they were denied entry to the center but they were able to get some intresting shots of the outside of the building and the signs which notify anyone on the outside that if they’re RedCross or FEMA they have no business entering.

Shortly after these pictures were taken the Center closed its doors (PIX) and put Katrina back on the streets to wait for busses to a military base where they would be housed (more PIX)

World Vegetarian Day

Sunday was the 6th Annual World Vegetarian Day in San Francisco. There were food venders from all over the Bay Area selling or giving away froom and lectures from nutritionists, economists, and environmentalists. Attendies ranged in age from children and teenagers to young-professionals, to silver-haired men and women and displayed an equaly varried ethnic spectrum. WRGPT15

Regestration has now opened up for the 15th World Rec.Gambling Poker Tournament! Regestering is fast and easy (link), the game is intense and may well last most of a year. Last year’s winner, Brent Stuber, played for 270 days to beat 1158 other players. The prize? Bragging rights. The fee to enter? None. The game is played entirely through email, hosted and controled entirely by computer. There’s no better way to build your patience as a poker player than spend a few days on a hand.
