It’s amazing - okay…maybe not that amazing - how many people can’t wait for this quarter to be over with. It’s been a pretty stressful one. I don’t know how I managed to have more work this quarter than last when I had to worry about that senior thesis. Oh…maybe the business with Mike that’s getting off the ground, CollegeConfessional, my freelance work, evening Mandarin classes, a bit of on-the-side consulting would explain away things. Yeah….that could be it.
On the horizon:
- Monday: HIST 109 final (done now, w00t for posting delays), evening Mandarin class
- Tuesday: CHIN 3 final, HIST 153 Final
- Wednesday: morning coffee and muffin to celebrate the end of the quarter ^_^, file for visa in SF, evening Mandarin class

- Thursday: History student get-together, toast the end of the year
- Friday: Honors convocation
- Saturday: Graduate, countdown until China
Got a pleasant email from JapanFiles.com’s Dave Cirone letting me know that a link to my pictures from Fanime Con 2006’s MusicFest were features on the JapanFiles Myspace blog and I got to meet one of our neighbors this afternoon.

Wheee! almost done with the quarter. Done with my papers, one more presentation, then finals. Graduation, two weeks, then fly off. It’s a bit of a trip that I’m leaving in less than three weeks now.
CollegeConfessional’s doing well, I’d say. More than 1,000 visitors and inches from the 100-confession mark. I’m hoping traffic will increase once we’re fully indexed through Google Sitemaps.
I’m thinking about finding a travel buddy for going through China with. If anyone knows someone, put ‘em in touch, yeah?
Other than that, my biggest concern is securing a job before I leave so I don’t have to worry about it once I get there. Some time I’ll have to grab extra memory and battery for my camera, I think. I’m sure I’ll be running through both like there’s no tomorrow.

Finally got the last of the Fanime pictures uploaded the other day. More than three-hundred of them from the Masquerade. Pictures up here. So many great costumes and skits. Lots of funny ones, lots with great choreography. A shame that I probably (hopefully b/c it’ll mean I’m working) won’t be in the country for the next one.
Now I’m waiting around for this ARS (automated retrieval system) to pull the books I’ll need for my Greek history paper. 30-minutes of down time. Idle. Well….not completely wasted, gives me time to email and post. But if this thing’s supposed to be so great why does it create a half-hour where I can’t do anything? Yea….I guess I could have asked for these books before I left the house this morning, true. But there’s the other side where I’ll be getting about a half-dozen books and they might not be useful to me. The whole idea of putting a barrier between students and research resources just screams bottle neck to me.
Happily, CollegeConfessional seems to be doing well its first few days off the ground. Need to update my photoblog. Oh yeah….and there’s that pesky 10-page Greek hist paper I still need to start. Should be a fun weekend.

I’ve had this idea floating around for a few months now. An online confessional aimed at college students. Let’s face it, a lot of sorted things can happen over a red-cup-weekend and the stuff we remember is usually not us at our best.
So I’ve created collegeconfessional.net to be a site to fill that need. Expect the layout to change in a week or so when I’ve got more time but I just couldn’t wait to go public with it.
At this point I’m soliciting word-of-mouth marketing and usability input from all of you wonderful people ^__^ .
thanks a bunch!!

Okay…I’m reaching the 20 hour mark on eye-open time. I fell asleep on the bus this afternoon (evening?) and missed a few stops. That bus isn’t exactly a luxury ride, either, k? So I’ll leave the post on the fun details of the convention and my screwy dreams from Saturday night off for yet another post.
I’m planning on uploading the Fanime pictures in three sets: Cosplay, MusicFest, and Masquerade, in that order.
I just finished getting the Cosplay pictures uploaded. They’re here for your enjoyment.
Now….finally….bed time (-_-)zzzZZZzzzz

Oh the sweet ringing.
You know…I was biking home the other week and had to stop at a railroad crossing. “This should be loud,” I thought. But after the train passed…I kinda felt it was lacking a little UMPH!, ya know? Oh did I get that tonight.
Tonight was Fanime’s Music Fest. A concert by Japanese indy groups that was as loud as it was awesome. The good people at Fanime got together Up Hold, Miami, Swinging Popsicle, Prospect, Mothercoat, and Goofy Style together for the weekend, playing in the Civic Auditorium tonight. Simply great. I’d never heard of the bands before but I will certainly be seeking more of their music for a fix now that I’ve started.
Another thing that came together which made the event even more participatory (read enjoyable b/c if there’s one thing I like it’s getting involved) was being able to work the event as a member of the press. Did I get to get close? Oh yeah. Did spending a few hours a couple of feet away from the speakers contribute to the ringing? WHAT DID YOU SAY?? Did it pay off with fine pictures? You betcha. Can you see them? ~_~ aww…I just got home….lemme get some dinner in me and we’ll see what I get processed and when, k?

In a three-person house, two of them can’t…no, won’t….use the internet. How’d we start down this path of insanity? Mike groans to Frank “oh come on! I bet I can survive without the internet longer than you can.” And we go from there.
Mike’s not using the internet, Frank’s not using the internet, and for a while I wasn’t talking (I fell victim to a jinx…we’ve resolved that
)
Yep, we’re on the cutting edge in this house ^_^ .

This year’s Fanime Convention in San Jose will be jam-packed with anime fun for all ages, and 41 hours of fun for fans 18 and over ^_- .
How can they fit 41 hours of cartoon porn in a three evening event? That’s the best part….it’ll be playing on up to three screens between midnight and 6am.
Fanime coordinators…..I salute you!
Oh….and yours truly might be there working freelance. ^_^
I’ve been looking in to the cosplay culture in anticipation of the event and I wanted to throw up a link to Yaya Han’s site. Her work is amazingly detailed. Looking at the work she’s done one cannot help but be amazed at the skill and detail that she’s put into her craft.
UPDATE: Looks like my math was off…it’s more than 41 hours. Silly me didn’t realize Yaoi Con Bingo was also for “mature audiences.” This brings the total to 46 hours of ID-required animated love.

Wheee! I just bought my tickets to China! I’ll be leaving SFO on June 28th. Arriving in Taipei the afternoon of the 29th for a layover (I couldn’t resist) and then off to Hongkong in time for dinner on the 30th. Should be a lot of fun.
Hmm…I wonder how many calls I’ll have to make to get another day in Taipei? ^__^
UPDATE: I’m now leaving for HK on the 1st of July from Taipei. Two days in Taiwan ^__^ . Tell me that ain’t utterly sweet

How have I gone so long without realizing how freaking good a lime squeezed into food is. I had a bowl of pasta for dinner with a lime squeezed into it and it was fantastic. Oh yeah…..soooo good.
I’ve got a date in mind for where I’m leaving for China. June 28. A wednesday. For some reason I like the idea of leaving in the middle of the week. It’ll give me 10 days after commencment. The to-do list is already started. I’m going to keep making notes on the “China Plans” page of this blog.
Planning the end of the quarter. This week I’m putting aside for my Philippine History paper and term paper. The week after should belong to Helenistic Greece.
